WINTER PROJECTOR/IPAD TOURS - A NEW WAY TO SEE OLD EDINBURGH
_______________________________________________________________________________
Visualising the past has just taken on a new dimension.  Imagine standing in an Old Edinburgh location and seeing how it once looked, seeing it in a way that few of Edinburgh’s visitors will ever see.  We can give you one of the very best visual experiences possible, our projector tours! We use visuals to help explain our stories.  With bigger groups we use hand-held mini projectors to reveal the past, to enlighten and entertain you on your tour.  We’ve recently started using an iPad to help show the past to our smaller groups.  Read on to see how we use this technology in very different ways on our two Edinburgh guided tours. Our Greyfriars Kirkyard Projector/iPad Tour is a refinement of our summer ‘Resurrectionists Tour’.  There we used A3 booklets to show you which characters were buried under some of the tombs and monuments; now we can take it a step further! Our projector tour lets us shine an image of the person buried here directly on the ground in which they lie or, on a nearby tomb.  These special effects aren’t used as a gimmick.  We use the projectors respectfully; Greyfriars is Church of Scotland ground and, importantly; these people are buried here!  We use an iPad in a similar way when working with a smaller group.  So if you want an informative tour, well researched and with innovative special effects, why not try us? Our Old Edinburgh Projector Tour is also an evolution of what we do on our summer ‘Walking in the Footsteps Tour’.  That tour saw us use our A3 booklets to show you the characters who once walked Edinburgh’s streets as well as images which show what the area you were standing in once appeared.   We use an iPad with our smaller groups. On this revised tour we can show you far more images of how the Old Town has changed, letting your imagination fully realise what Edinburgh once looked like.  We’re pretty sure that this is the ultimate way to experience two Edinburgh, the modern city of today and the long lost one of history.

“This was a tour I had been looking forward to when I booked it and Robert did not disappoint. The projector is an inspired addition to what would otherwise be just another historical walking tour. Robert's knowledge combined with visual examples and the modern day locations made Edinburgh's history much more real to me. Thank you again, Robert, for a great tour and for doing the tour despite the fact that I was the only one booked for that night. I really appreciate it!” Tasha11416 TripAdvisor review - 21/1/2016
“I have just enjoyed a wonderful history tour of Greyfriars Kirkyard led by Robert. I was looking forward to the tour and Robert didn’t disappoint. The use of the projector and Robert’s passion for the history of Edinburgh made this tour the best and most informative I have done. Without a doubt when next in Edinburgh, and I have every intention of returning, I will organise another tour with Robert and Historic Edinburgh Tours.” MoonshinesTripAdvisor review - 30/10/2016
“TThe stories are told on an entertainingly human level but are also useful to fill out and understand a larger historical picture as well. We covered Greyfriars Bobby, George Heriot, the Conventers and Thom Riddell. Instead of using the oversized picture books used by other tours I've taken, he uses an LED projector with the various graves and buildings acting as his screen. In the end I felt totally comfortable wandering a graveyard in the pitch black and was so pleased with the tour I booked another tour for the next night. ” WindowSeatGoddess TripAdvisor review - 2/10/2017
