Our current tours
If you like history, then Edinburgh’s a great place to visit.  It seems that everywhere you walk in the Old Town has something historic to look at and photograph.  With all this obvious history around you, and some excellent guidebooks, why on earth would anyone feel the need to take a guided tour? The article below, written for us by a guest writer, gives you a few reasons you might not have considered before.  You can always email us and let us know what you thought of these suggestions, or maybe even give us your reasons for taking a tour!
Why should you take a guided tour of Old Edinburgh?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
it is your first time to visit Edinburgh or any other city or country in the world, it’s a pretty good idea to take a guided tour instead of exploring the area on your own. “Now,” we hear you say, “you would say that! You’re a tour guide company!”.  You would be right of course, but there are a few reasons we’d like to share with you.  Taking a guided walking tour lets you leave the details to people who know more about the place. This will make your planning process less stressful and, hopefully, make the trip more memorable. A guided tour allows you to visit many of the main attractions in the place within the shortest time possible. The story and history of the place will be explained by the guide. You’ll get to experience the area through the eyes of a local. Plus, you don’t need to look for the landmarks on a map, and in our cases, some of the places we take you to don’t exist today!  You’re going to benefit by coming with us; we’ve done the historical research for you! You won’t need a guide if you want to take photos of the sites but you’ll end up with just pictures, and you could well know surprisingly little about the place. Sometimes the visuals are all you need, but we believe that often there is a lot more fun in knowing the story behind the image, a picture doesn’t necessarily tell a thousand words.  To find out about landmarks and appreciate them, you’re probably going to get a lot more out of your visit if you take part in one of our walking tours. Your tour will help you know the reasons why the sites, buildings, memorials, statues, and other landmarks are significant in historical terms and why some of them are still important to our locals today! Large cities can be intimidating to tourists who are unfamiliar with the public transportation system and the local streets. Through a guided tour, you are safer because you have a guide that can tell you where to go and where not to go, which ‘attractions’ aren’t necessarily what you expect them to be or even which parts of town should be avoided. For instance, a guided tour of Edinburgh will take you to historic places and hear the story about Scotland and its history. The city’s Old Town is a famous destination for a walking tour. The guide takes the visitors through the area while learning about secrets that are not included in guidebooks.  While it is easy to download guides online or buy destination guides, some of the guides are too lengthy to read. It is much easier just to listen to the history as told by the guide. They provide the statistics and facts that are also found in the guidebooks, but they add a lot more value to the experience. They tell stories that only locals know and provide historic context. Some even make the walking tour a fun experience by giving trivia and adding humour to their spiels. A guided tour might be more expensive, but the experience is worth it. There’s no need to research about the places to go and their history. All you need to do is show up at the designated spot, and the guide will take you on an impressive tour of the region. A guided tour makes the visit more meaningful and memorable. There are times when people go to a place without knowing the significance of what they are looking at.  A guide will educate them on that and much more.
