OLD EDINBURGH TOUR GREYFRIARS KIRKYARD TOUR OLD TOWN PRIVATE TOUR
Our current tours
There’s nothing quite like a bit of local knowledge to give you an even better understanding of a city and your guide has that in abundance.  Robert was born only a few minutes away from our usual Greyfriars Kirkyard starting place, was educated in Edinburgh, attended University in the Old Town and now teaches only a few minutes away from Greyfriars.  He has lived in Edinburgh his entire life.

Historic Edinburgh Tours was formed in 2013 with the intention of providing high-quality walking tours around the Old Town of Edinburgh.  We research, write, plan and resource our tours ourselves and pride ourselves on a high degree of professionalism.  Robert, your tour guide, is a local school teacher and has published a number of multimedia titles, one of which was sold in Greyfriars Kirk itself.  He has been fortunate, through his teaching job, to have completed temporary placements with Edinburgh World Heritage and the Royal Commission for Ancient and Historic Monuments (now part of Historic Environment Scotland).  We are now a family run company. Taking people around our home city is a great honour for us! It fills us with pride when people come from around the world to see Edinburgh! Historic Edinburgh Tours is aware of just how important your vacation time is for you! We don’t want to disappoint you in any which way. Rather we want to add value to your holiday. It’s what we aim and aspire to do. Below you will find out a little bit about why we love doing what we do and why we think you’ll enjoy a guided tour of Edinburgh with us. We take your satisfaction very seriously. For those who cannot physically manage the full tour we also offer shortcut tours which are physically less wanting. Historic Edinburgh Tours are currently discussing ways we can help market the Edinburgh Museums, such as the fantastic Museum of Edinburgh (Huntly House for those visitors of old!), the People’s Story (in the Canongate Tollbooth) and the Writer’s Museum to name a few. Unlike many free tours of Edinburgh we’re a legitimately registered company with Companies House and are covered by comprehensive insurance as well. As a practicing tour guide I shall: Seek to serve visitors; to be an ambassador for the place I work; to instil in visitors the ability and desire to sense beauty in their surroundings. Seek to respect all visitors with whom I come in contact and welcome them as I would welcome guests in my home; and to share equally my knowledge and passion regardless of the visitor's age, gender, interests, physical abilities, or cultural differences. Seek to be agreeable, look good, have a polished presence, speak in a well- modulated voice, and be genuinely friendly. Seek to see the good, or the humour, in any situation and answer repetitions questions with enthusiasm, as if they were asked for the first time. Seek to convey only well-documented, accurate information. Seek to improve my mind, continue learning about the resource, and expand my learning about the principles and processes of interpretation that will ultimately benefit visitors to the site. Seek to help other interpreters achieve their interpretive goals, particularly assisting new interpreters to develop confidence and abilities. Believe in myself; give my best to the world and expect that the world will give its best to me.
